You are invited to the Hunterdon County Democratic Committee 2016 Spring Reception, honoring Jeannie Geremia.
Jeannie, a Raritan Township Committee Member, has been instrumental in designating the Black Swallowtail Butterfly as the official butterfly in the state of New Jersey. Her quest began in August 2013 as Chairwoman of the Garden Club of New Jersey Butterflies and BeeGap. For two years, Jeannie worked with State Officials and campaigned for the bill with petitions, letters, phone calls and emails. On January 11, 2016, the bill was signed into law and the Black Swallowtail Butterfly was designated as the State Butterfly of New Jersey. Up until this time, New Jersey did not have a state butterfly.
The Black Swallowtail is indigenous to New Jersey and is know for not only it's beauty, but for pollinating many cultivated flowers and crops. The establishment of a state butterfly recognizes the role that butterflies and other pollinators play in agriculture and the ecosystem.
